Ectopic thyroid nodule

Findings:
There is a well-circumscribed right paramidline lesion, overlaying the lamina of the thyroid cartilage on the right side deep to the strap muscles, measuring approximately 15 x 8 mm. It shows high signal on T2, intermediate signal intensity on the precontrast T1 images with homogeneous enhancement on the postcontrast study.
There is a similar, rounded lesion measuring approximately 6 mm in the left thyroid lobe.
No associated lymphadenopathy. The soft tissue of the neck is otherwise unremarkable.

The visualised brain is unremarkable. No hydrocephalus or midline shift.
A small retention cyst is seen on the floor of the left maxillary sinus. The paranasal sinuses and the mastoid air cells are otherwise clear.
No bony abnormality is seen.

Impression:
Right paramedian soft tissue lesion overlaying the lamina of the thyroid cartilage on the right side with similar signal intensity of a small left thyroid nodule, likely in keeping with a thyroid nodule within ectopic thyroid tissue. Histological evaluation is advised.
