Mandibular osteomyelitis

Findings:
Two miniplates in situ post open reduction and internal fixation surgery of the body of right hemimandible.
A visible osteolysis area bounded by reactive osteosclerosis is seen involving the right hemimandible at the site of the mini plates, open on the lingual and vestibular surfaces with periosteal reaction and some bone seizures in context. The osteolysis involves the alveolar ridge at 41 – 43 regions. It is associated soft tissue swelling and submandibular lymphadenopathy.

The inferior alveolar nerve courses through the osteolysis area with bony dehiscence of the canal.

The paranasal sinuses are clear. The imaged upper cervical spine is unremarkable.

Conclusion:
Features compatible with mandibular osteomyelitis at the site of the miniplates in the body of the right hemimandible involving the alveolar ridge at 41 – 43 regions.
